Sue Very Williams, 68, of Salem, Illinois, passed away at 3:25 AM on June 19, 2024, at her home in Salem and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 21st, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem with Father Rev. Jose Jacob officiating. A Private Family Burial at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home at 310 North Broadway Ave/ P.O. She was born March 24, 1956, in Binghamton, NY to Donald W. Very and the late Louise Very. Sue married John Williams on September 8th, 1979. They were blessed with 44 years of marriage. Sue lived in Montrose, PA and Boulder, CO prior to her marriage to John. They then lived together in Tucson, AZ, Austin, TX and finally landed in Salem, IL in 2008 to escape the big city rat race. Sue and John both worked at IBM for many years in those locations.
Sue is survived by her husband John; Children: Tonya Williams and husband, Ben Hunt, of San Diego, CA, and Michelle Prosser and husband, Clay of Dix, IL; two grandchildren Wesley and Brianna.
Sue had many passions, but one that she loved the most was caring for her family. She wrote a cookbook to help keep the family recipes alive. She made quilts for family members. She tended numerous flower gardens on the family farm and generally kept the home a warm and centering place for her family.Sue was very active in the community of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem, Illinois serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Trustee. She was also a member of the Avila League.
She will be dearly missed.
