The Salem Masonic Lodge has made a $3,000 donation to the Salem Community High School Drama Club.

The donation came after Salem Theatre Board member Meredith Fyke suggested a donation to the drama club because of the more than 50 students who are involved.

Mason Steve Lindsey said an application was made to the Grand Lodge who approved the request.

“Not every kid excels in sports and things and this is a great avenue for kids to all get together, a diverse group of children who may not hang out on a normal basis, and get together and express themselves and showcase their talents.  We thought it was a great fit for our community programs so Drew called me the next morning, we made an application and we are glad to have them.”

SCHS Teacher and Drama Club Sponsor Drew Johnson accepted the check.

“We are allocating it towards some sound issues that we have had.  We are going to get more mic and belt packs.  Our main speakers have something going on in them, we are looking to pair this money with some money we made on the last show to replace the main speakers.  Give everyone a better experience and really showcase these kids talents.  If you can’t hear it doesn’t really do you any good to be doing what we’re doing.”

Because of the drama club’s unique arrangement to utilize the Salem Community Theatre, Johnson notes everyone who utilizes the theatre will benefit from the better sound.   He hopes the work can be completed before school starts in August.

The Salem Mason’s investigated helping programs at Salem Community High School following the successful applications made to the Grand Lodge by the Kinmundy Masons to assist the welding program at South Central High School.
