An 83-year-old Dix man has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Route 37 south of Route 161 on Sunday afternoon.

Dale Reese passed away on Monday at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital.

Reese along with his wife, 79-year-old Sharon, who was a passenger were both trapped in the vehicle after it crossed the centerline of Route 37, went into the ditch, and struck a tree on the other side of the road.   The two were both flown from the scene via Air Evac Helicopter.    His wife is still reportedly recovering from her injuries.

Reese’s obituary says he was the owner of D.K. Reese and Associates Insurance, in Dix, and served clients’ insurance needs throughout Southern Illinois. He was a member of Orchardville Church, where he served on several committees, and was a Deacon. He was also a member of Gideons International, holding statewide offices. He was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was a member of American Legion post #141 of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Dale attended Farina Lagrove High School, graduating in 1959, as a star center on the basketball team. Dale loved fishing, working on his farm, and bowling, having won several bowling trophies, awards, and accolades.
