The Centralia Community Youth Center has a new concrete outdoor basketball court after 15 volunteers gathered for a workday on Saturday.

The Executive Director of the center, Herb Williams, is elated with the results of the project organized by Wes Monken.   Williams says Monken arranged for volunteers from City Hope Church and paid for the concrete and equipment to complete the work on the east side of the front parking lot.

“Going to be an added treasure for kids from all over to come in.  It’s probably going to be one of the better outdoor courts located in the city.”

Williams says they had the outside basketball court before, but it had become broken up asphalt where a few kids had skinned their knees playing.

Williams noted Monken’s generosity goes beyond the work he organized at the Youth Center on Saturday.   He says he has coordinated similar projects at various locations across Centralia.

On another note, Williams is looking for a used 12 by 15 foot box trailer they can purchase reasonably to help bring food to the center for food giveaways and for the upcoming summer lunch program for students out of school for the summer.
