Exalted Ruler Mike Hooe also announced the Salem Elk’s had once again won the competition for All American Lodge, Division Four, for the entire state of Illinois.
The Elk of the Year Award was presented to Michael ‘Mick’ McGuire who has been an active member for 13 years assisting in the kitchen and on various fundraising teams.
The Elk Family of the Year is Brad and Sherry Hargis. The four-year members were honored for Brad’s work in the kitchen and for helping to organize the Elk’s first responders event during youth week activities. Sherri was recognized for heading the Student of the Month program and assisting with the Elk’s Charity Golf Outing and other fundraising efforts.
The Officer of the Year is Eddie Mulvaney. He has been an officer for the past two years and has taken charge of the Main Street Flag program, is a daily leader in the Hungry Hearts program, and has assisted on several fundraising teams and in the kitchen.
The Lady Elk of the Year is Sherry Morton. She has helped with the Chicken Dinner Sundays since the beginning, recognized and assisted in getting a chair lift for those attending events on the second floor, and recruited a team to help with Hungry Hearts.
Special Service Awards were presented to Trustee Bill Soulon for offering a helping hand in the kitchen and other programs and Marilyn Morlan who is retiring after 19 years as manager of the Elks. Morlan received loud applause for her work and well wishes on her upcoming retirement.
