Salem Recreation and Marion County YMCA Director Jed Casburn is pleased with the turnout for this weekend’s Family Fun Day in the Park.
Casburn likes the event because the entire family can come out and everything is free.
“I’m very pleased this year. I was kinda worried about the heat. We’ve had a really good breeze. Our sponsors this year were fantastic. I think everybody ran out of whatever they brought so that means we had good traffic. We had a good crowd. We want to thank the community and thank everybody who participated.”
The various participating sponsors provided food and games. Bouncy houses were also popular.
A fishing derby started the day. 6-year-old Nayomi Keller with 19 fish caught, 10-year-old Aiden Wright with 22 fish caught, and 16-year-old Peyton Durham with five fish caught won the three age divisions. The winners for the longest fish were four-year-old Jacob Durham with a 24-inch long fish, eight-year-old Hayden Keller with a 15-inch long fish, and 16-year-old Dayton Woods with a 23 1/4 inch fish.
