The KC Blue Angels run at the National Tournament ended in the Elite 8. The Angels opened up Thursday with a 6-5 win over Angelina Community College. Ivy Smart, Sydnee Garrett and Megan Bailey each doubled. Garrett drove in 2 runs. Mikayla Healy had 2 hits and an RBI with Rance Skaggs also driving in a run. Freshman Karlie McKenzie improved to 23-2 on the season going 4.2 allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 5 strikeouts. Garrett worked 2.1 allowing just 1 earned run.
That win put KC into the Elite 8 against 7th-seed Seminole State. Although they took an early 2-0 lead, Seminole scored 3 in the 3rd and 4 more in the fifth to put the game out of reach and end a fantastic season or KC with 49 wins. In the game, Healy homered and drove in 2. Megan Bailey doubled, Josie Grunloh had a hit and scored, Ivy Smart singled and Skaggs had 2 hits.
