Carol Sue O’Dea, 88, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem with Father Rev. Jose Jacob officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home in Salem. A Private Family Burial at East Lawn Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church and/or Daffy-Dill Garden Club and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home at 310 North Broadway Ave/ P.O. Carol was born April 4, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Frederick Ruenpohl and Margaret (Miller) Ruenpohl. She married Patrick O’Dea on May 1, 1992, in Salem, Illinois and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2010.

Carol was very active in the Avila League at the St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem, Illinois. She was a Pink Lady Volunteer at the Salem Township Hospital. Carol was a member of the Daffy-Dills Garden Club and the Salem Elks Lodge 1678. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Carol is survived by her children: Kim Dolan and husband Tim of Decherd, Tennessee, Michael McCann and wife Tarry of Zionsville, Indiana, Kelly McCann Holsapple of Salem, and Kristin Gulley and husband Gene of Salem; eight grandchildren: Rebecca Kent and husband Daniel, Charlie Dolan, Cyndi Mace and husband Jordan all of Tennessee, Kevin McCann, Korena Dearholt and husband Jason, Gage Gulley of Zionsville, Indiana, Greyson Gulley of Salem, and Whitley Thompson and fiancé Nick Durbin of Highland, Illinois; eleven great-grandchildren: Kara Dolan, Lacey Dolan, Daniel Kent, Clover Kent, Connor Mace and Kenley Mace all of Tennessee, Jack Dearholt, Jon Dearholt, James Dearholt all of Indiana, and Emersyn Durbin and Jaxton Durbin all of Illinois.
