Bessie Sprehe, 88 formerly of Hoyleton, passed away at 8:38 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Carlyle Health Care Center with her family at her side.
She was born on November 9, 1935, in Marion County, the daughter of Howard and Mary Marie Richards Leathers. She married Marvin H. Sprehe on October 15, 1955, in Hoyleton and he passed away on August 20, 1999. Also preceding her in death were her parents, 3 brothers Tom and 2 in infancy, 4 sisters; Fern Leathers, Isabelle Taylor, Virginia Garrett, Blanch Burge, a grandchild Joshua, and a great-grandchild Jamie.
Left to mourn her passing is her son Charles Marvin Sprehe of Hoyleton. 3 daughters; Christine (Mike) Molenhour of Salem, Vickie (Dean) Schaeffer of Nashville, and Kathie (Tom) Wernsman of Centralia. A brother Douglas (Shirley) Leathers of Rock Falls, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Viola Rueter of Centralia.
Bessie was a machine operator at Hollywood Brands in Centralia and later was a cook at the Hoyleton Children’s Home. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
