2024 05/07 – Jerry ‘Pete’ Peters

Jerry “Pete” Peters, 80, of Centralia, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

He was born on Saturday, August 7, 1943, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to McQuilla and Helen (Britton) Peters. He married Jane Wernsman on January 29, 1966 in Centralia.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Jane Peters of Centralia, Pete is also survived by his two children: Jerad Peters and wife Susie of Centralia, and Janae Whitsell and husband John of Jacksonville, Florida. He adored his grandchildren: Mariah Peters, Riley Peters, Kennedy Whitsell, and Brittany Harris, as well as his great-granddaughters: Audrey and Addison Harris, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, McQuilla and Helen Peters, his brother: Danny Peters and sister: Sally Shelton.

Pete spent 35 years as a Stationary Engineer at the Warren G. Murray Developmental Center in Centralia, Illinois. He was an life member of the Centralia Elks Lodge 493 and a member of the Centralia American Legion Post 446. Pete enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, playing golf, and being a loyal St. Louis Cardinal Fan. He had a passion for gardening and mowing his yard. Pete loved his family and cherished the time he spent.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia.
