Jacob Andrew Hunsell, 53, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 1:01 am April 30, 2024, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born March 30, 1971, in Granite City, Illinois to the late John R. Hunsell and Elaine Rae (Lewis) Hunsell Hutchinson. Jacob married Lorie (Taylor) Hunsell on June 3, 1995.
In addition to his wife of nearly twenty-nine years, Jacob is survived by a grandson, Jacob Aaron Hunsell and mother, Darcey Ross of Woodlawn; mother-in-law, Kathy Taylor of Mount Vernon; brothers, John Hunsell and wife, Cheryl of Woodlawn, Ted Hunsell and friend, Cindy of Bluford, and Ben Hunsell and wife, Melissa of Rolla, Missouri; sisters, Mary Lou Hunsell of Edwardsville, Illinois, Susan Long and husband, Jerry of Waltonville, Beth Snyder and husband, Jay of Waltonville, Illinois, Sally McCowen of Waltonville, and Angela Kirkpatrick and husband, Kenny of Waltonville; sister-in-law, Mary Dial and husband, Monty of Mount Vernon; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends who were like family.
In addition to his parents, Jacob was preceded in death by his son, Jacob “Jake” Abraham Hunsell, II; sisters-in-law, Becky Vohlken-Hunsell and Cheryl Hunsell; father-in-law, Charles Taylor; sister, Dawn Hunsell; brother, Tom Hunsell; stepfather, Bill Hutchinson; and nephew, Kyle Price.
Jacob was a master metal craftsman and co-founder at Hunsell Brothers Construction. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Gun and Sportsman’s Club, NRA, Ducks Unlimited, and Friends of the NRA. Jacob enjoyed spending time in his Dog House and hosting gatherings for his family and friends. He loved to fish, hunt, woodwork, leather work, and was an incredibly talented artist and craftsman. Jacob was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers Football fan and was famous for his carved Mushroom Walking Sticks.
A Visitation will be held Monday, May 6, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, Illinois. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville, Illinois Memorials may be made in Jacob’s honor to the Hunsell Family in the care of John Hunsell.
