The Salem anglers were unable to catch enough big fish to advance to the IHSA State Bass Fishing championships after their day on Newton Lake yesterday. Salem’s #1 boat of Hunter Russell and Brogan Gregg caught 13 pounds 85 ounces of fish and finished 13th. Right behind them in 14th place was Salem Boat 2 with Cooper Lobek and Colten Starnes.
Carlyle 1 won the event catching 22 pound 25 ounces that included Nathan Rolfingsmeyer, Adam Voss, Grant Heuls and Maverick Danback. TTown 2 was 2nd with 20 pounds even and Carlyle 2 was 3rd with 16 pound 82 ounces that includes Wyatt Nothuas, Michale Brinkmann, Tyler Huff and Kaleb Eversgerd.
On Rend Lake, Woodlawn 2 boat of Bowen Rollie and River Rynksi won the event with 8.93 pounds. Benton 1 was second and Christopher 1 was 3rd. Not advancing was Mount Vernon and Woodlawn who were 5th and 6th with both Centralia boats 12th and 13th.
At Coffeen Lake, Mt Olive 2 advanced along with Wesclin #1 and Bunker Hill 2. Wesclin caught 14.29 pounds and included driver Mike Holtgrave along with anglers Gabe Kay and Brady Holtgrave.
At Kinkaid Lake, Carbondale #1 will be the alternate after Trico #2 won the event followed by Carterville 2 and Murphysboro 1.
