Lincoln “Wayne” Wagner, 93, of Marion, Illinois, passed away at 1:55 am on April 19, 2024, at Heartland Medical Center in Marion.
He was born March 13, 1931, in McPherson, Kansas to the late Lincoln C. and Bonnie R. (Smith) Wagner. Wayne married Marilyn (Martin) on May 31, 1952, in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 72 years of marriage.
In addition to his beloved wife, Wayne is survived by his sons, Martin Wagner and wife, Jean of Vincennes, Indiana and Scott Wagner and wife, Margo of Mount Vernon; daughter, Wendy Goodman and husband, Todd of Marion; grandchildren, Lincoln Wagner and wife, Natalie of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Kacie Meers and husband, Chad of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Lindsay Marcum and husband, Blake of Libertyville, Illinois, Katie Wagner and wife, Danielle of Makanda, Illinois, Malorie Hendrix and husband, Nick of Mount Vernon, Zebedee Goodman and fiancée, Mady McBride of Marion, Hezekiah Goodman of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Nehemiah Goodman of Marion; great-grandchildren, Harper Wagner, Heidi Meers, Elsie Marcum, Easton Marcum, Owen Wayne Wagner, and Walker Hendrix; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Wagner; his infant brother, Gerald Burton; and sisters, Wanda Wagner and Freda Burns. Wayne was the owner and operator of Wayne’s Marathon for many years. He was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church and found joy in hunting and fishing. Wayne was a Saint Louis Cardinals fan. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various sports. He was also a youth baseball coach. Wayne was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed. Per his wishes, Wayne will be cremated.
