National Prescription Drug Take Back Day programs planned in area

By WJBD Staff Apr 21, 2023 | 8:43 AM

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday.  The Salem and Centralia Police Departments and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department are among the police agencies that will be participating in taking no longer needed prescription drugs.   The official hours of the day are 10 to 2, but the agencies say they will take the old drugs at any time to make sure they don’t fall into the wrong hands.

The Salem Police Department has collected 1,871 pounds of unwanted medications since the program began in October 2012, including 130 pounds during the last Drug Take Back Day in October of last year.

The Community Resource Center is joining the program for the first time with an event at their Centralia office at 904 Martin Luther King Drive in Centralia from ten to two on Friday.  You can bring in unwanted prescriptions for proper disposal as well as receive free NARCAN and connect with local resources.
