2024 04/05 – Harold Eugene Smith

Harold Eugene Smith, 86, of Odin passed away peacefully Monday, April 1, 2024, with his family by his side. Harold was born on September 15, 1937, the son of Eugene and Thresa (Carter) Smith. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kay Helpingstine. They were married on February 1, 1957.

Harold was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for 74 years. He was a Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and Deacon. Harold owned and operated Smith’s Peach Orchard, Smith Construction for 20 years, and Harold’s Prefinished Wood for 42 years. He raced go-carts, rode horses, loved taking trips on his Goldwing with dear friends and enjoyed showing his 1955 Chevy Bel Air, where he won several major awards. He loved watching the Cardinals and NASCAR. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Melinda Boyles (Tony), and Patricia Bartley (Terry); 4 grandchildren, Alisha Finckbone (Josh), Nic Boyles, Kasey Cox (Jordan), Chelsie Carril (Ben); 8 great-grandkids, Bryson and Collyn Finckbone, Noah, Jobi, Katy and Lawson Cox, and Wesley and Sunny Carril; sister, Linda Wutzler (Bob); and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Lynette Boyles.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Odin with Pastor Ray Barnes and Pastor Kevin Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorials may be made in Harold’s honor to Bethel Baptist Church, including youth group in the memo and will be accepted for the family at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia.
