Nelson Arrowsmith Sr., 85, of Carlyle, passed away on Wednesday, April 3rd. He was born the son of Nelson and Vera (Zinn) Arrowsmith in rural Carlyle on September 1st, 1938. He married the love of his life Sue Ann Anglen at the Central City Baptist Church on Nov. 22, 1960. She survives in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his three children Lisa Ann Arrowsmith, husband David, Nelson O. Arrowsmith Jr., Tina Marie (Arrowsmith) Golding, spouse Skipp; two cherished grandchildren Payton Golding and Addison Golding; brothers-in-law Rick Anglen, spouse Marty, and Mike Anglen, spouse Paula; and sister-in-law Jeanie Blair, friend David and many nieces and nephews.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents Nelson and Vera Arrowsmith, mother and father-in-law Bud and Esther Anglen; sisters Joan Brake, husband Leonard, June Mueller, husband Bill; sister-in-law Josephine Anglen, and stepsister June Waggner.
For over 65 years, Nelson was a dedicated hard-working Union Carpenter. Hardly ever missing a day’s work, he finished a project with a job well done. When Nelson didn’t have a nail and hammer in his hand, you would find him with a garden spade working the ground for his next crop. His green thumb went beyond a bountiful garden, he had a passion for growing Pecan trees. Nelson’s Pecan trees were loved for and nourished by the remarkable amount of knowledge he learned over the years. But his greatest passion of all was the experiences he had in the greenhouse or horse shows with his granddaughters. He treasured the time spent with them and would have the best stories after a day of making memories. Nelson will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
