Gregory Kirk, 64, of Centralia passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on June 11, 1959, the son of Alfred Jr. and Betty L. (White) Kirk in Chicago. He married the love of his life, Sharon Brown on July 6, 2000, in North Chicago and she preceded him in death on October 24, 2016.
Survivors who will remember Gregory’s spirit of perseverance include his brothers, Michael Edward Kirk of Chicago, and John Trahan of Chicago; and his nephew, Michael (Janelle) Brown Jr. of Centralia.
Along with his wife Sharon, Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Jr. and Betty Kirk.
Mr. Kirk served his country in the United States Army with honor and pride. He was a loyal employee of NAL in Salem, where he was conscientious to complete his task to the best of his ability. A wrestler since Jr. High, Gregory continued to train into adulthood, competing in Olympic style wrestling. He conditioned his body and mind in the martial arts of both Hopkido and Judo. Gregory had a love for the sport of boxing and was quick with his right and light on his feet while in the boxing ring. Time spent outdoors centered him and brought him peace while fishing and horseback riding. Gregory was an amazing husband, supportive, caring uncle, a true gentleman, who understood the importance of showing respect and earning respect from others. He will be deeply missed by his family, but they take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Sharon with whom he shared an everlasting love.
A celebration of life service will be held by the family on a later date. Memorials may be made in Gregory’s honor to the family’s wishes.
