James O. “J.O.” Hall, age 82 of Carlyle, passed away peacefully at Aviston Countryside Manor on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Mr. Hall was born in Carterville, Illinois on February 18, 1942, a son of the late John and Jewel (Smith) Hall. J.O. married Susan McDonal on December 5, 1981, and she survives in Carlyle.
In addition to his wife Susan, Mr. Hall is also survived by his children – Valerie Spurgeon, Jonathan Hall and wife Sharon, Darin Frazier and wife Julie, and Tara Frazier; and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Hall also had 3 sisters – Catherine Anderson, Maxine Howell, and Luceal Dorries; and a brother, Leon Hall.
Mr. Hall was a proud veteran who served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Before his retirement, J.O. served as a corrections officer at the Centralia Correctional Center and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. His career also included time with the US Marshals. Following his public service, Mr. Hall found joy in working for Jenal Co. in Centralia.
J.O. was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Carlyle. He loved woodworking and carpentry and could often be found working in his shop. He also enjoyed deer hunting. Above all, the moments nearest to his heart were those spent with his family, whom he loved dearly.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Carlyle with Rev. Scott Broughton, officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Cemetery near Centralia. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Carlyle on Wednesday, March 27, from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M.
