A flood warning issued Friday night for Marion and Jefferson County was later allowed to expire at 1 Saturday morning. There had been a flood watch since Wednesday afternoon before it was upgraded to a warning.
The Salem Water Plant recorded another 75-hundredths of an inch of rain in the 24-hour period ending at seven Saturday morning. The Centralia Water Plant recorded an additional 73 hundredths of an inch.
The additional rain brought the two-day total in Salem to 2.42 inches and to 2.57 inches in Centralia. One gate of Raccoon Lake was open up to six feet at times on Friday but has now been closed after the level of the lake dropped to 4.5 inches below the spillway as of seven Saturday morning. The closing of the gate should help alleviate flooding downstream. At one point, the Salem Reservoir was 12 inches over the spillway which had dropped to six inches Saturday morning.
At the last report, the Salem Township Roads crossing Crooked Creek south of Salem were underwater as were the roads crossing North Fork and Flat Creek in Patoka township. Road officials emphasize not to drive onto flood-covered roads.
One driver had to get on the hood of his car and eventually walk out of knee-deep water on England Road near Summertime Road southeast of Salem.
