A Celebration of Millie’s Life will be held at Salt Creek Baptist Church at 7775 FM3100, Early, TX 76802 on March 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
Millie was born March 25, 1947, in Iuka, Illinois to Artie and Mary Gordon. She was the only daughter of their nine children. She married Art Weems on April 20, 1964. They were blessed with four children: Brett, Debbie, Jeff, and Kim. She and Art moved to Texas in 1986 and have lived here since. Millie was a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church.
Millie was a great example of a servant to God and others. She had many careers including a meat-wrapper at IGA, a crosswalk guard and cafeteria worker at Early ISD, and a nursing aide. During her 20-year service in the nursery at Salt Creek Baptist Church, “Mrs. Millie” faithfully served the Lord by ministering to hundreds of children. She also cared for dozens of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to bowl and was involved in league bowling for many years. Millie loved her bowling family. She spent countless hours crocheting blankets, booties, and caps for many friends and family. Planting flowers and watching birds were also hobbies she enjoyed. Millie didn’t know many strangers and would talk to everyone she met, especially babies.
Millie is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Art Weems, their four children, Brett Weems; Debbie (David) Shields; Jeff (Mitzi) Weems; and Kim (Matt) Hancock, all of Early and Brownwood, Texas, grandchildren, Regina (Marcus) Lively; Chance (Julia) Atteberry; Kylon (Wendy) Atteberry; Tiffany (CJ) Miller; Amber Weems; Ben Weems; Christian Weems; Noah Weems; Dylan Hancock, Hope (Isaiah) Whetstone; David Lee Shields; Asher Weems; Savanna Hancock; Nathaniel Weems, great-grandchildren, Carmen; Savana; Hayden; Kayleigh; Jase; Beckett; Sonny; Henry; Hudson; Walter; Jacob; Wyatt; Truett; Joshua; and Theodore, and by four of her eight brothers: Bob; Arthur; Buck (Rhonda); and Carl Gordon, sisters-in-law Lynda Gordon and Lena Weems and brother-in-law Jesse Weems, all of Iuka and Salem, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents Artie and Mary Gordon, brothers Harrison, Glen, James, and John Gordon; daughter-in-law Shannon Weems; and close friends Bob and Frances Woodward.
