Janice A. Winks, 73, of Kinmundy, Illinois passed away at 6:15 am, Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the SSM Health Good Sarmatian Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Janice was born on August 15, 1950, in Pontiac, Illinois the daughter of Paul L. and Doris (Kindelberger) Holzhauer. She married Robert Eugene Winks, Sr. on November 21, 1977 in Pontiac, and they shared 37 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 4, 2015.
Janice’s journey through life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family and the joy she found in simple pleasures. Her career as a waitress spanned many years, during which she became a familiar and beloved face at several local establishments, including the Kinmundy Truck Stop, Judy’s, and Don’s Meat Market. Her work was not just a job; it was an extension of her friendly and caring nature, as she served her community with kindness and a ready laugh.
More than anything, family was Janice’s world. She poured her love into every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, creating memories that would become their most treasured inheritance. Her love was a guiding force, unwavering and unconditional, and it will continue to resonate in the lives of her loved ones.
Janice’s hobbies reflected her appreciation for the simpler things in life. She was an avid resale shopper, always on the lookout for hidden treasures that she could share with others or add to her collection. Her sharp mind was often occupied with the challenge of crossword puzzles, a pastime that brought her quiet contentment and a sense of accomplishment.
As a faithful member of the Alma Christian Church in Alma, Janice’s faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Her involvement in the church community was a testament to her belief in kindness, service, and the power of faith to uplift and support those around her.
Janice is survived by her children: Jeana (Mike) Saatkamp of Salem, Kimberly (Ethan) Bouser of Farina, Robert “Robbie” Winks, Jr. of Kinmundy; grandchildren: Nathaniel Finckbone, Jamie Finckbone, Kemper Hotze, Emilee Hotze, Lindsey (Ben) Hodge,
Kaitlyn Cooper, Jon Bouser, Jenna Bouser, Anna Marie Albers, Adelyn Winks, Whitlea Winks, Zaylea Winks; 5 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way; step-mother: Delores Holzhauer of Fairbury, Illinois; her twin sister: Janet Duncan of Kinmundy; sister: Marsha (LeRoy) Meister of Fairbury, Illinois; brothers: Jeff (Renia) Holzhauer of Pontiac, Illinois, Rod (Jennifer) Holzhauer of Minonk, Illinois, Micheal (Karrie) Sexton of Kinmundy. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: Gerald (Bonnie) Holzhauer, John Holzhauer; brother-in-law: Jack Duncan; sister-in-law: Debbie Holzhauer; nephew: Chris Holzhauer.
Funeral services to celebrate Janice’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the McGriff Funeral Home in Kinmundy with Randy Van Ausdall officiating. Burial will follow at the Alma Cemetery, Alma, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home where friends may call from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
