A fire that appears to be electrical in nature damaged a home east of Centralia on Monday.

Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera says Crystal Smith returned to her residence at 707 Burge Road to discover a fire coming out of a dryer vent.   She attempted to knock down the flames until firemen arrived.  However, the fire was still smoldering in the wall and floor above the fire.

There was heavy smoke damage to the basement, but not the rest of the home.  There was fire damage to the drywall and flooring.

Boshera noted if Smith would have come home five minutes later it’s likely the fire would have spread throughout the house.

The fire call came in at 10:40 Monday morning.  Firemen were on the scene until 12:15 pm.
