Bond has been set at $40,000 for a 19-year-old Salem man who was charged with his ninth vehicle burglary in Marion County Court on Monday.

Branden Powell of South Franklin is accused of entering a vehicle on the Salem Community High School parking lot the day after he had been placed on probation for eight vehicle burglaries that occurred on various streets in Salem on one night last September.

Salem Police say Powell jumped out of the vehicle when the owner came out of the gym and noticed the gate of his vehicle open and closed it.   While Powell successfully ran on foot, he was identified from video surveillance of the parking lot.  He was not located until a traffic stop in Centralia last Friday.

Powell had a public defender appointed to represent him.
