Melvin E. Bursott, 91, of Kinmundy, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at his home. Melvin was born on November 14, 1932, in Richland County, Illinois, the son of Edgar and Francis (Biedleman) Bursott. He married Diane Totten, and she preceded him in death on November 1, 1995.
Melvin enjoyed being outdoors and took pleasure in hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed going to the grandkids ball games. Melvin loved to cook and would make the best homemade yeast rolls. He was a US Navy Veteran and served on the USS Philippines Sea during the Korean War. Melvin always had a smile on his face and was loved by all.
Melvin is survived by his son, Eric Bursott and wife, Beth, of Kinmundy, IL; step-daughter, Jill Hull and husband Bob of Olney; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bemont of Robinson, IL, Shelby Bursott of Indianapolis, IN, and Jonathon, Lucas, and Colby Bursott of Kinmundy; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Henry, and Baylor Bemont; brother, Douglas Bursott; sisters, Patsy Nettleton, Doris McGregor, and Nancy Pitts; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Richard Bursott. A visitation will be held for friends and family on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.
A funeral service will be held for Melvin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Following the service, Full Military Rites will be performed at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project
