By Bruce Kropp Feb 24, 2023 | 6:59 PM

The family of Ellen (Moore) Sinclair sadly marks her passing at the age of 89 on November 25th, 2023, at Reflections at Garden Place in Columbia, IL.

In addition to the love and admiration of her children Tari, Lea, and Rich, she was a doting grandmother to five, and great-grandmother to eight, as well as a valued friend and member of the community of Salem, IL. Prior to moving to Columbia, IL, she resided for a short while in Naples, FL, and Red Bud, IL.

Born April 23, 1934, in Odin, IL, her parents Carl and Norma (Perry) Moore predeceased her. She was married to her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Sinclair from January 21, 1950, until his passing on January 28, 2006. Ellen leaves behind her children Tari (Steve) Henne of Red Bud, IL; Lea Sinclair (the late Ronald) Filson of Plymouth, MA; and Richard Sinclair of Salem, IL.  Her grandchildren are Beth (Brad) Grohmann of Highland, IL; Jana (Zac) Zipfel of Red Bud, IL; Kristin (Devin) Gregson of Red Bud, IL; Andrew (Jacob Walker) Sinclair of New Orleans, LA; and Ryan (Sunny) Sinclair of Salem, IL.  Her great-grandchildren are Makenna and Maggie Grohmann, Allie and Kylie Zipfel, Breck and Crawford Gregson, and Clementine and Penelope Sinclair. She leaves behind a sister, Darlene Jones of Centralia, IL; and joins her late brother Tom Moore, and late sister, Jean Curtis Crain.

Ellen was known for her youthful beauty and reserved grace. Among other accomplishments, she went back to school as a young mother and graduated from Greenville College in the 1970s. She took to the skies earning her pilot’s license, was a registered gemologist, and became a certified electrologist. She was a long-time Democrat, serving as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention alongside her husband twice. She was an active member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants of the State of Illinois.  Her most important passion, she would tell you, was her children, and being Mammaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. A private burial will be at Paradise Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Southern Illinois in the care of Richard Sinclair, 1007 W. Main Street, Salem, IL 62881, or can be left at the funeral home.  Online condolences can be made at www.CrouseFH.com.
