Salem Township Hospital President Alex Nazarian says plans have now been finalized for the doctor’s office facility that will be located in ‘A’ wing.

Nazarian gave an update on the project to the hospital board at its Wednesday afternoon meeting.

“We are nearing the end of the demolition stage of our A wing and we have actually finalized the drawings with the architects and it is ready to go out for bid to the different contractors for the components to come up with a budget.  And once we have some firm numbers we will be presenting them to the board for their approval so we can then start the next phase.”

Nazarian says the demolition of the old patient wing has gone well.

“Not as problematic as we thought initially.  This is a 50-year-old facility, so there were a lot of unknowns going into that.  Ya we had a few hiccups, pipes are brittle, there are wires we don’t know what we do and they are cut off, etc…but other than that it has been very easy for us.  But it hasn’t affected patient care at all.”

Nazarian is hoping the renovation of the new wing can be completed by October when a new doctor is scheduled to begin practicing at the hospital.

Work has not yet started on the new parking lot facility outside A wing that will be brought to the same level as the building to avoid steps for patients who have difficulty walking.
