Salem home heavily damaged by fire

A Salem home was heavily damaged by a Saturday night fire.

No one was home at 402 North Washington when smoke was seen coming from the home.

Salem Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Bill Fulton says the fire appears to be electrical in nature and started in a living room wall and spread into the attic.   He reports heavy fire damage to the south side of the attic, but the fire never broke through the roof.   The fire was confined to the living room and an adjoining room.  A wall between the rooms had to be torn into to get to the fire.   A hole also had to be cut in the outside of the home to get to the fire in the attic.

In addition to the fire damage, the entire single-story home sustained heat and water damage.

Fulton said it appeared someone was living in the home, but an effort to find them was unsuccessful Saturday night.  Property records indicate the home is owned by Amy Meyers of Salem.

Odin Firemen provided mutual aid on the scene while Kell Firemen stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.  The fire call came in at 10:30 Saturday night with firemen on the scene for about two hours.
