Douglas R. Back, Sr., 76, of Patoka, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 27, 1947, in Hopkins County, Kentucky, the son of Cecil Back and Dollie (Mitchell) Back. In 1966 in Alma, Illinois, Douglas married Sharon Edwards and she survives.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Sharon Back of Patoka, Douglas is also survived by his children: Douglas Back, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Patoka, Bradley Dean Back and wife Charlene of Springtown, Texas, Andrew Back of Patoka and Randy Back and wife Cathy of Effingham; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Charles Back and wife Pat of Nebo, Kentucky and Edward Back and wife Helen of Madisonville, Kentucky; a sister: Patricia Veal and husband Joe of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Cecil and Dollie Back, two brothers: Thomas Back and Billy Back, and one sister: Josephine Hank.Douglas worked for 10-plus years at Henderson Trucking. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed going fishing and hunting. Douglas was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.
