John Glynn Norman, 76, of Salem passed away Feb 6, 2024, at his home.
He was born September 3, 1947, the son of Bill and Lillie (Mauldin) Norman. John was married on September 22, 2000, to Deborah (Cruse) Byers in Farina, Il.
He graduated from La Grove High School in Farina. He served in the US Air Force for 7.5 years with various deployments including Vietnam. John then spent many years as a forklift operator at Sherwin Williams, Hella, as well as other businesses. John was a hard worker who enjoyed people, he never met a stranger. He was a member of the Freedom Church in Salem and a member of the American Legion in Edgewood. He loved his family and enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah; two brothers: Jim (Melody) Norman of Farina and ‘George’ David (Vicky) Norman of Ballwin, Mo.; three stepsons: Shane (Angie) Byers of Mason, Jeremy (Crystal) Byers of Farina, and Drew (Amber) Byers of Salem; one stepdaughter: Melissa (Mark) Pearson of Kinmundy; 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lillie Norman, brother Steve Norman, and great-grandson Tristan Pearson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home in Salem with Don Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at the Iola Cemetery in Iola, Illinois with military honors given by the Farina American Legion. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Donor’s Choice and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home 310 N. Broadway /P.O.
