Salem Economic Development Director and incoming City Clerk Tabatha Meador.

Salem’s next City Clerk is already a city official.

Current Economic Development Director Tabitha Meador has been appointed to take over the position effective June 1st on the recommendation of Mayor Nic Farley and concurrence from the city council.

Meador will replace long time City Clerk Bev Quinn who is retiring.

Meador said she was ready for a change.

“Excited for the opportunity.  Bev has provided a number of years of service to the city and is a wealth of knowledge.  I’ll try to spend the next few months absorbing as much from her as I can.”

Meador has been Economic Development Director the last three years.

City Manager Rex Barbee says a search will now begin locally and possibly with the services of a headhunter to reach out further.   He also expects some change of direction in the position.

“I think that there is going to be some additional outside training we will be looking at and more community involvement to help promote the region and the city and see what we can come up with.”

Barbee notes with Meador not transitioning into her new position until June 1st they have some time to find her replacement.

Before being hired as the city’s Economic Development Director, Meador served as Executive Director of the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce and Legislative Aid for now retired State Representative John Cavaletto of Salem.
