This is the 20th year Franklin Park Middle School Science Teacher Joni Dorff has sponsored the school’s blood drive with great success. But this year they want to top 100 units of blood and have their biggest drive ever.
Dorff says they are also reaching out further this year than just her 7th grade science classes.
“The Red Cross came in to talk to the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th grade during their P.E. classes and gave them fliers as well. So hopefully the whole school will get out and help get donors.”
The Salem Grade School District has also promoted the blood drive in two callouts to parents on their notification system.
Dorff says the Red Cross has a gift for students who help.
“Every student who recruits one presenting donor will receive a pair of American Red Cross ear buds with a screen cleaner clip on case. So they are pretty excited about that and we are encouraging kids to have their donors make an appointment.”
And Dorff hopes those in the community will help as well. As of Monday, 96 were signed up to give blood.
The blood drive is from two to six Tuesday afternoon in the Franklin Park Gym. You are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 1-800-Red-Cross or visit the Red Cross website at RedCrossBlood.org.
