Mary Catherine Carlyle, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:40 pm on January 29, 2024, at Green Tree.
She was born October 26, 1929, in Centralia, Illinois to the late Leo and Dorothy (Francois) Lordan. Mary married William “Bill” T. Carlyle on October 6, 1949, in Centralia, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly forty-four years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 28, 1993.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sarah Martin and husband, Greg of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Megan Cappel and husband, Michael of Cincinnati, Ohio, Cory Martin and Megan Munzert and her daughter, Payton of Port Richey, Florida and Angela Carlyle; great-grandchildren, Madison, Jackson, Carter, and Avery; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her sons, Matt and Tony Carlyle; brothers, Francis “Pete” and Michael “Mickey” Lordan; and sisters, Dorothy Ann Lordan, Julia “Judy” Rogers, and Patricia “Pat” Watson; sister-in-law, Karen Lordan; brothers-in-law, H.C. Haney and Bill Rogers.
Mary worked as a bookkeeper at General Radiator and Jerry Owens Radiator. She attended Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed volunteering at the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, Bargain Box, and Hospital Gift Shop. In her earlier years, she was a seamstress, an avid bridge player, and an excellent cook. Her favorite food group was chocolate.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. on February at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Father Steve Paulter officiating. The family will greet friends from 9:30 to the time of service at the church. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Centralia, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Mary’s honor to Saint Mary School or Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
