Jacqueline Jean “Jackie” Overturf, 89, of Sandoval passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Carlyle Healthcare and Senior Living. She was born on April 27, 1934, the daughter of Carl and Mildred (Jansen) Horst in Walnut Hill. She married Robert Overturf on February 4, 1952, in Centralia, IL, and 4 children were born of this union.
Survivors who were blessed to have Jackie as a special part of their lives include her beloved family, children, Kim (Randy) Booth of Rolla, Missouri, Roberta Bowen of Sandoval, Illinois, and Robert Overturf Jr. of Centralia, Illinois; precious grandchildren, Amber Rice, Lauren Booth, Jen Booth, Amy Bowen, Aislinn (Joe) Rizzo, Tiffany Gregory, Megan (Matthew) O’Heron, Lindsey (Kevin) O’Heron, Courtney (J.J.) Kolesar, and Brandi (Amanda) Overturf; 21 cherished great-grandchildren; and 8 beloved great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; her dear sister, Helen Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Along with the father of her children, Robert Overturf, Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gale Horst, Carl Horst, Charles Horst, and James Horst; her son, Terry Overturf; her brother-in-law, Terry Davis; her son-in-law, Randy Bowen; her grandson-in-law, Andrew Rice; and her niece, Becky “Davis” Viara.
Jackie was a caring, compassionate, beautiful lady who was the heart and soul of her family. She felt blessed to care for her home and nurture her children and grandchildren, wanting only the best of all life could bring for each of them. Jackie was not one to sit still and liked to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. Jackie volunteered at a soup kitchen in Centralia, offering a kind word and warm food to those who came. While living in Chicago for over 20 years, she was a loyal employee at the cleaners in her neighborhood. She will be remembered for her love of movies, laughing out loud at romantic comedies, and grabbing the Kleenexes while watching romance movies. Jackie was a fan of country music, liked to enjoy retail therapy while shopping and share a good meal out with friends and family. She would have considered herself a homebody who appreciated a relaxing night at home, but she also looked forward to times of camping and travel. Strawberries will be a reminder to all how Jackie was always on a quest to find strawberry dishes to add to her collection. “Granny O” to her grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren, Jackie loved nothing more than to be surrounded by family, sharing laughs and stories, and watching her family grow. Jackie will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all who loved her dearly.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Brother Claude Howell officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in Jackie’s honor to the Sandoval Fire Department.
