State Representative Blaine Wilhour is upset with the lack of change in the House of Representative rules for the coming two years.

Wilhour says Democrats currently hold a strong supermajority in the Illinois House, which gives them complete and total control over the legislative process.  He fears the rules will keep the same type of unilateral power that it exercised during the long-time reign of former Speaker Mike Madigan.

“Little bit of window dressing, but at the end of the day they can do whatever they want.  And as we’ve seen over the last several years, letting them do whatever they want means trampling on our individual freedoms, Constitution and everything in between.  It’s time that we stand up and actually represent the citizens of this state and put some policy and rules in place that would allow for transparency and accountability in this chamber.  Accountability is something that is not done enough up here that is for sure and all the taxpayers in Illinois pay for it.”

Wilhour said the house had a unique opportunity prior to this week’s vote to start off this new General Assembly focused on good government and transparency.
