He was 83 years of age. Born on July 22, 1940, in Boulder, Illinois, Ray lived a life filled with kindness, humility, and love.
Ray was the beloved husband to Lucy Buchele (nee Toedte), with whom he shared a beautiful marriage since their wedding on October 29, 1966, in Centralia, Illinois. Together they raised a family that included their son Jeff and wife Renee of Coloma, Michigan; daughters Dana Rakers and husband Jon of Centralia, Missouri, and Traci Garner and husband Jason of St. Louis, Missouri. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren, Andy Buchele and wife Madi, Jenna Rakers and fiancé Bradley, Katelyn Rakers, Paige Theising and husband Jake, Grace Garner, and Jack Garner, and his great-grandchildren, Mady and Rhett Theising. Ray is also survived by his sister, Nina Buchele; his brother, Dennis Buchele and wife Jane; and a brother-in-law, Tom Burleyson.
Ray joins in eternal rest his late parents, Harold and Virginia Buchele, and sister, Karen Burleyson.
A proud veteran, Ray honorably served in the Army National Guard for eight years. Professionally, he worked as a farmer, and a skilled carpenter, and dedicated 34 years at American Steel in Granite City. His dedication to his work was only matched by his commitment to his faith as a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle.
Ray was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan and spent relaxing times working on puzzles. He enjoyed the company of hummingbirds at his feeder and loved working outside in his yard, but most of all, Ray loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
