John Cole McDermott, 73, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at his home.
He was born February 24, 1950, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late James McDermott and Wanita (Cole) Rettke.
John is survived by his former wife, Vicky Evans of Knoxville, Tennessee; children, Mario McDermott and wife, Ling of Manila, Philippines, Kristy McDermott and husband, Mitchell Johnson of Austin, Texas, and Jeanie McDermott of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Zachary Myers of Marion, Illinois, Isabel McDermott, and Cole McDermott, both of Manila, Philippines, and Chance Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee; great-grandson, Camdyn Myers of Fairfield, Illinois; brother, James McDermott; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack McDermott and Joe McDermott.
John was the proud owner and operator of John’s Tractor Service. He collected model trains and enjoyed classical music, such as The Beatles and playing the guitar. John was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by those left to cherish his memory.
A Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 1:00 pm with Mr. Kent McDermott officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in John’s honor to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
