On Friday, December 29, 2023, Margaret “Marge” Cox entered eternal rest at Odin Care Center. She was born November 27, 1921, to Lawrence and Irma Meyer.
She married William G. “Bill” Cox and together they had one daughter, Renee (Cox) Hennessy and she survives in Centralia along with several nieces and nephews.
Marge and her late brother, Donald “Sparky” enjoyed a childhood in Centralia. Marge attended and graduated from Central City Grade School and Centralia Township High School. In her young life, Marge was a talented acrobat and dancer. She loved water skiing and was also very athletic. Throughout her life, she worked at A&P grocery, Ross’ flower shop, Hutchison florist and later owned and operated Brookside Florist. Marge loved serving and connecting with her community through beautiful floral arrangements. A fun trademark of hers was turning dollar bills into roses to be used in floral arrangements! A member of Zion United Church of Christ in Central City, Marge was very active in many groups at her church.
Later in life, her deep passion for floral arranging and gardening continued. She loved being outdoors and up until her mid-nineties she was still mowing her own lawn and golfing at the Colonial Golf Course.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister-in-law, and son-in-law.
Friends and family are invited to share in a service honoring this remarkable lady at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2023, at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Online condolences and memories of Marge may be shared with the family at www.maczfuneralhomes.com or on their Facebook page. Memorial contributions in Marge’s honor may given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
