Lennon Ray Mefford, 86, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 2:44 pm December 20, 2023 at his home. He was born June 9, 1937, in Penrod, Kentucky to the late Harvey Jackson and Esmer Pearl (Peay) Mefford.
Lennon married Laura (Freeman) Mefford on December 18, 1962, in Reno, Nevada. They just celebrated their sixty-first year of marriage.
In addition to his beloved wife, Lennon is survived by his sisters, Barbara Powers of Belleville, Illinois and Pauline Hamilton of Irvington, Illinois; sister-in-law, Marian Corderio of Fortuna, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Bonita Ayers and Ima Chwascinski; brother, Wilbur Mefford and wife Theresa, siblings-in-law, Landon Powers, Sterling Hamilton, Allen Freeman, Ila Murphy, Paul Murphy, and Eddie Corderio.
Lennon enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, and watching horse races. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn.
A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois. Inurnment will follow. Memorials may be made in Lennon’s honor to the Illinois Sheriff’s Association.
