2023 12/22 – Silas B. Light

Silas B. Light, 90 of Glendale, AZ, and formerly of Watseka passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at his home.

He was born on March 22, 1933, in Sheldon the son of James and Mary (Couch) Light. Silas married Joyce Leiding on February 13, 1955, and she preceded him in death. He later married Marlene Bates in Wheaton, IL on August 22, 1986, and she survives. Also surviving are four children- Lenny Light of Sun City, AZ, Steve (Tammy) Light of Salem, David (Angela) Bates of Glendale, AZ, and Margo Bates of Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.

Silas was in education for 39 years, serving 29 years as Principal of Woodland Grade School. He was a member of Watseka Masonic Lodge, and First United Methodist Church, and served as an alderman for the City of Watseka for several years. He loved the University of Illinois sports and the Chicago Cubs.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 4-7 pm at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 10:30 am at the Watseka First United Methodist Church with Pastor Darla Holden officiating. Burial will be in Iroquois Memorial Park in Watseka.
