A 31-year-old Centralia man who formerly resided in Salem has been sentenced to a total of ten years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in connection with two fights at the Marion County Jail. Jacob Erwin had a number of other charges dropped as part of the plea, including a vehicular hijacking charge.
Erwin received a five year prison term for aggravated battery to a correctional officer for allegedly punching a correctional officer in his cell as two officers were trying to move another prisoner in September. An aggravated battery charge to the second correctional officer was dropped as part of the plea agreement.
Erwin received another five year term to be served consecutively for another fight at the jail, this one with another inmate who he struck in the face with his fists.
In addition to the prison time, Erwin will have to complete one year of mandatory supervised release when getting out of prison.
Charges in three other incidents against Erwin were dropped as part of the plea. They include vehicular hijacking and violation of an order of protection when he allegedly pushed a protected person into the passenger seat of her car at the Mills Crossing Apartments and drove off. He later encountered some of the woman’s family members on Missouri Avenue and fled the vehicle on foot. Erwin was later found hiding in a bathroom at Burger King. He also had aggravated battery and domestic battery charges in connection with a third incident and a simple battery charge in a fourth incident dropped as part of the plea.
