Kaskaskia College has received approval to offer a new Associate of Fine Arts Theatre Degree beginning next fall.

College President George Evans is commending new theatre instructor Kevin McCarty in getting the courses needed to complete the degree program through the college’s curriculum committee in less than six months of being with the college.

“The third piece of our ASA degree from music to choral from now theatrical production with some focus on stage craft.  It gives a nice variety to those students looking to get into either actor or some kind of performance based field.  It really does a good job of introducing students to the entry level needs of not only acting but putting on a show and stuff that goes on behind the scenes.”

Evans says the degree program has also been approved by the Illinois Articulation Initiative which guarantees the degree courses will transfer to a four year university.

Evans says he’s looking forward to the expansion of the theatre program.
