A 30 by 30-foot garage was destroyed by fire in Iuka on Wednesday morning, but firemen were able to put out the fire with only minor damage to a home a few feet away.
The fire was at the Colton Hays residence at 611 Thomas Street. He was not at home when a neighbor spotted the fire.
When firemen arrived, the garage was fully engulfed and a 2005 Chevy pickup, tools, and other items inside were also a total loss.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
In addition to destroying the garage building, there was some melted siding on a portion of the home and some minor damage to the soffit under the back porch that had started to burn.
There were no injuries.
Iuka Fire called Salem, Kell, and Orchardville to the scene for mutual aid while Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day assisted with command. United Medical Response also stood by.
The fire call came in at 7:55 Wednesday morning. Firemen were on the scene until 9:15 am.
