Everything is set for two parades in Centralia on Saturday. The Fall Festival which runs from nine to three on Saturday will feature the Children’s Halloween Parade. The big parade will follow at seven Saturday night.
Butch Mathus is coordinating both and is excited by what he expects to be two great parades. He says the night parade will feature more floats and bands than last year.
“About 109 entries. 41 floats and 7 bands and everything is looking wonderful. We have a lot of activities in downtown day events progressing from 9-3 and we hope everybody shows up. Looks like we got beautiful weather. And all I care about is everyone is safe and have a wonderful time.”
The parade will travel down its traditional Poplar Street route. You’ll be able to listen to live coverage on WJBD-FM 100.1.
Earlier in the day, Mathus says the Children’s Halloween Parade will take place in the downtown area.
“We just ask everybody to show up around 10:00 a.m. we are going to do judging around 10:30 and start the parade at 11:00. After the kiddie parade ends everybody meets at the bandshell and we will announce the winners. There is no pre-registration. There are 20 areas where everybody can congregate between decorating wagons and floats and all the other costumes that everyone will have.”
Mathus says they could still use some help with judging the kiddie’s parade. If you want to help, show up at ten at Library Park.
