Illinois State Police say a State Police Officer was fired upon on I-39 near Mendota in north-central Illinois on Thursday night while investigating an earlier shooting on the Interstate.
State Police say the original shooting was on I-39 in LaSalle County. After locating a vehicle matching the general description, ISP officers began following it. A passenger reportedly fired the shot that hit the ISP squad car but did not injure the trooper.
After briefly losing sight of the vehicle, it was located again near Monroe and the chase continued into Wisconsin monitored by ISP Air Operations. The vehicle eventually ran out of gas and the three occupants were taken into custody. 43-year-old Heather Hyatt of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, 41-year-old Michael Winch of Brooklyn Wisconsin, and 38-year-old Michael Goodman of Madison, Wisconsin all were arrested for possession of fentanyl and cocaine as well as trafficking the drugs.
All three are being held in the Rock County Jail in Wisconsin awaiting a bond court hearing.
The investigation is ongoing.
