Nine arrested in drug round-up in Mt. Vernon

Nine people were arrested in a round-up of suspects primarily dealing narcotics in Mt. Vernon on Tuesday.

Knock and announce search warrants were served on three homes simultaneously by a team of officers from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the US Marshall’s Task Force.   The cases were developed by the Mt. Vernon Police-Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force.  All three residences were secured without incident.

During a search of 517 South 22nd detectives reportedly located a large quantity of methamphetamine, cannabis, controlled substances, currency, and drug equipment.   31-year-old Kegan Graham was arrested for aggravated delivery of methamphetamine 100-400 grams, manufacture/delivery of cannabis over 500 grams, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug equipment.

At 509 South 22nd, 21-year-old Sebastian Whipple was arrested on a Jefferson County warrant for unlawful delivery of 1 to 15 grams of cocaine within 500 feet of a school or church.  The bond was set at $40,000.  After allegedly locating cannabis, controlled substances, currency, and ammunition, Whipple had additional charges of possession of a controlled substance, manufacture or delivery of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis, illegal possession of ammunition, and obstructing justice/destroying evidence.

At the third home at 2220 Cherry Street, 24-year-old Rafael Diaz was arrested on a Jefferson County warrant charging the manufacture/delivery of cocaine.  The bond was set at $50,000.  During the search officers allegedly located cannabis, controlled substances, currency, and firearms leading to additional charges of manufacture/delivery of cannabis, possession of firearms by a felon, possession of a controlled substance, and armed violence.

Officers assigned to the detail then began checking various residences and locations throughout Jefferson County for other persons wanted on warrants.

As a result, the following people were arrested:

  • 39-year-old Jerrett S Spells, on a Jefferson County warrant for Delivery of a Controlled Substance 1-15 Grams in a Park and a second count for Delivery of a Controlled Substance 1-15 Grams. Bond is set at $50,000 (10% applies).
  • 62-year-old Jeffrey E Dent on a Jefferson County warrant for two counts of Delivery of Methamphetamine, bond is $40,000 (10% applies).
  • 39-year-old Christopher M Carter on a Jefferson County warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine. Bond is set at $30,000 (10% applies).
  • 34-year-old Eric V Rakers on a Jefferson County warrant for two counts of Delivery of Stolen Firearms, two counts of Delivery of a Firearm to an Addict, and one count of Delivery of Methamphetamine 5-15 Grams. Bond is set at $75,000 (10% applies). Rakers is also a suspect in a residential burglary and theft cases in Mt Vernon, additional charges are expected.
  • 31-year-old Richard C Hicks on a Jefferson County warrant charging three counts of Delivery of Methamphetamine. Bond is set at $100,000 (10% applies).
  • 54-year-old Rebecca Phillips on a Jefferson County warrant charging Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Bond is set at $75,000 (10% applies).
