Two Marion County Jail inmates face new charges of aggravated battery following a fight in a Marion County Jail cell on Saturday.
27-year-old Matthew Woods of North Maple in Centralia is charged with striking another inmate in the head with his first.
29-year-old Mantez Duncan of Cormick Street in Centralia is accused of shoving a correctional officer in the back with his hands.
Marion County officials say the fight between five inmates reportedly broke out in a disagreement over a card game. A correctional officer was shoved when he tried to break up the altercation. There were no injuries that required hospital treatment.
Woods is being held on pending federal charges of bank fraud and identity theft.
Duncan has been sentenced to 55 years in prison after being found guilty for first degree murder in the 2019 shooting death of 39-year-old Clendar Edmund of East St. Louis at a home just east of Central City. He was returned to the Marion County Jail in August at the request of his attorney to help with preparation of a post-trial conviction seeking a new trial.
The appellate court sent the case back to Marion County in October of last year for further action after finding Duncan may have been prejudiced by his attorney formally prosecuting him in another case.
