B.E. Gum was the site for the Class 2a girls volleyball regionals that opened last night. The Salem Lady Wildcats advanced to tonight’s semifinals after their 25-6, 25-23 win over Flora. They will play Pana at 7pm tonight in the 2nd game of the night. The first game will feature Newton and Lawrenceville after the Lady Indians beat Greenville in 3 sets including 27-25 in the 3rd and decisive.
Also in 2a regional quarterfinals at Anna, West Frankfort beat Vienna and Johnston City over Anna DuQuoin beat the hosts at Chester, at Mt Carmel it was Benton over Eldorado. TTown fell to Marshall at Shelbyville. Sparta was the site for Althoff beating Sparta and Pinckneyville over Red Bud.
Tonight in 2a regional semifinals, Chester is the site for Nashville against DuQuoin followed by Carterville and Murphysboro. At Hillsboro it’s Breese Central and Carlinville followed by Staunton and Hillsboro. Vandalia will play the hosts at Shelbyville. Sparta will host Freeburg and Althoff followed by Columbia and Pinckneyville. At Wesclin, Mater Dei plays Marquette followed by Wesclin and Roxana.
In 3a regionals last night, Civic Memorial at home beat East St Louis and at Olney it was the hosts needed 3 sets but advancing with a win over Charleston.
Tonight at Olney, Marion takes on the Tigers followed by Carbondale and Mattoon. At Herrin, Centralia and Mt Vernon will play at 6pm followed by Herrin and Effingham.
Today in 4a, Belleville East hosts Collinsville and at Edwardsville it’s the hosts and Granite City followed by Belleville West and Alton.
