A combine caught fire and was destroyed while harvesting in a field at 1749 Ferrydale Road north of Sandoval late Monday afternoon.
Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson says upon arrival, the combine was heavily involved with fire and the fire was spreading north across a cut bean field toward a field of standing corn. Firemen were able to stop the fire at the edge of the cornfield.
The combine was owned by Thomas Beyers. The resulting field fire covered about two acres.
There were no injuries. Odin Fire and Patoka fire responded with mutual aid with brush trucks and tankers. Salem Firemen stood by at the Odin Station in the event of another fire.
Firemen were on the scene for just over two hours to make sure that the combine that was full of beans was completely extinguished. The fire call came in at 4:20 pm.
