A wind-whipped brush fire got out of hand in the backyard of a home at 1138 Meadowlark near the Schwartz Road intersection Monday night.

Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera says upon arrival, firemen found the fire moving toward two structures but were able to get it under control before it could advance any further.  The fire burned about an acre, spreading from the backyard of 1138 Meadowlark into the yard of an adjacent vacant home.

Centralia Fire Protection District Firemen also stood by around 5:40 Monday night when an electric line fell across Greenview Road near Webster Creek north of Greenview Church.  The bottom of a pole gave way after apparently being damaged when a squirrel came into contact with electrical power.
