The Marion County Relay for Life will be held Saturday evening at the fairgrounds.
Organizers say they are within $5,000 of reaching their $35,000 goal. The theme this year is ‘Seasons of Hope’.
The event was moved back to October this year in hopes of cooler weather and it appears the weather will be perfect.
Michelle Murphy says activities are planned from four to eight Saturday evening.
“Survivor reception this year. We have some speakers. Terry Hearn will be speaking by the survivors area. We’ve got a bounce house, luminaria sales going on. A quilt was donated so we will have a quilt raffle that night. Food booths and trucks with teams selling food that night.”
Murphy anticipates 100 survivors to be in attendance. They will be provided light snacks and refreshments.
Sheila Strong runs down the schedule of events.
“There will be lots to do starting at 4. The survivors reception begins at 4pm. At 5:00 we will have the traditional opening ceremonies including survivors, care giver and team laps. From 5:30-7:30 there will be various entertainment including Joel Young from Centralia. There are always surprises all throughout the night so there might be things we don’t even know about right now. At 7:30 is the popular emergency services memorial lap followed by the luminaria ceremony.”
After the luminary ceremony, the closing ceremony will take place where an announcement will be made on the amount of money raised so far.
Murphy is hoping they will be able to announce they have reached their goal. She’s hoping everyone, especially those who have had cancer effect their or their families lives to come out Saturday evening and help push them over their goal.
